Underlying

The underlying is the asset on which the evolution of a derivative product will depend.

An underlying is an asset on which a derivative product is based. It can be financial (share, index, etc.) or physical (agricultural material, precious metals, etc.).

The variation in the price of an underlying directly influences the price of the derivative product.
